Be someone upon whom nothing is ever lost." When she read it as a junior in college, this quote by novelist Henry James struck Barbara G. Tucker as a fascinating rule to live by. Her attraction to the quote is probably due to her interest in so many areas of life and human experience. Writing literary fiction is an outgrowth of her amazement in people and the world they live in.
Barbara, a native of Maryland and long-time resident of Tennessee and Georgia, began writing fiction seriously with the turn of the new millennium. Her first novel, Traveling Through, was published in 2008 by OakTara and republished in 2011 as the first of a three-novel set, A Family's Journey. In March 2012 she took her first step into ebook indie publishing by producing The Christmas Visitors. She believes she has a good story, but she also wanted to find out how epublishing works.
Barbara strives to write character-driven fiction about people facing difficult circumstances. She likes to include political and current events into her writing. She is happiest when writing but that doesn't mean getting to that happy place is easy.
Her day (and sometimes night) job is as a faculty member of a public college in Georgia. She teaches communication, public speaking, business writing, English, and humanities; she also does administrative work. She will soon be entering a doctoral program at the University of Georgia. She lives near Chattanooga, Tennessee, with her husband and son. She is a member of the Chattanooga Writers Guild and runs a small writers' critique group. She has two rescue dogs, is a lay teacher at her church and the vice president of a professional organization, and gardens.
Here are two videos about her books. As of Fall 2011, all proceeds from her books will go to World Vision for digging wells in developing countries.
